Press Release: Cousin's Campout Weekend Celebrates Juneteenth and the Outdoors
About Cousin’s Campout
Cousins Campout Weekend creates inclusive outdoor experiences that honor culture, community and connection with nature. Our events facilitate empowering and transformative encounters with the outdoors for people of color. We aim to create inclusive spaces for people to experience nature on their own terms, gain confidence in outdoor skills, and build community. Cousins Campout Weekend is held annually during Juneteenth to celebrate freedom, empowerment and Black culture.
Cousins Campout Weekend, an organization dedicated to getting more people of color outside and embracing nature, is hosting their inaugural camping event to celebrate Juneteenth. The weekend will bring together people of color of all experience levels for a weekend of learning, community, and adventure in the great outdoors.
Taking place at Sequoia Mountain Farm Campgrounds from June 13 - 16, 2024, in Pinehurst California. Cousins Campout Weekend will feature interactive workshops on topics like hiking, fishing, and more. “Our mission is to create an inclusive space for people of color to experience the beauty of nature, learn new skills, and build meaningful relationships,” said Darric D. Coleman, founder of Cousins Campout Weekend.”
The event also celebrates Black culture with music, art, storytelling and a community cookout. “Juneteenth is a time for joy, remembrance and freedom,” said Darric D. Coleman. Cousins Campout Weekend allows us to reflect on how far we’ve come, while also looking ahead to expanding access and opportunity.
The weekend will feature interactive workshops on topics such as basic camping skills, hiking safety, fishing, mental health and more. There will also be open discussions on the intersections of race, nature, and environmental justice. By embracing traditions like communal meals, storytelling, music, and dance, Cousins Campout Weekend 2024 seeks to honor Black culture and history while fostering new connections between participants.
Cousins Campout Weekend welcomes people of all backgrounds, though the event will center the experiences of Black, Indigenous and People of Color. Cousins Campout Weekend 2024 weekend tickets varies and starts at $150.00. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.CousinsCampout.fun
